HAS TECHNOLOGY BECOME A PAIN IN YOUR NECK?
USE OF HAND HELD DEVICES CAUSES CHRONIC PAIN
TEXT NECK :  a new term used to describe the pain and damaging effects to the neck caused by forward neck bending, rounding of the shoulders, slouched body, and overall prolonged poor posture while looking down at your smart phone, tablet, computer, or other hand held devices.
Chronic SmartPhone Usage
Cell phone users spend on average 2-4 hours each day hunched over their devices. Add that to the 8-16 hours hunched over a computer at work and numerous hours slouching  in a chair, and the accumulation of this posture is taking its toll on the health of your body.

Not Just a Pain in the Neck
Looking down at your phone, computer, books, etc puts a damaging amount of stress on the joints, disc and muscles of the neck and back, causing pain and tension, disc degeneration, disc hernations, pinched nerves, all of which can lead to spinal problems as severe as irreversable damage to the neck.
Text Neck in Children
The effects of poor posture are profound in children. Rates of back and neck pain are increasing in kids (and adults). Researchers are finding that some kids, due to habits and lifestyle, have the precursors to developing a "bad back," and are attributing these findings to prolonged use of hand held devices, gaming, watching TV, poor diets, heavy back packs and inactivity.
Why does my neck and shoulders hurt: The weight of the head is about 10-12 pounds. When the head is in alignment with your neck and body the force of the head is evenly dispersed and managed by your joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments.  When you tilt your head forward to look down at your phone, or other devices, gravity exerts a larger force on the neck because it is less supported by the structures of the neck and begins to rely mostly on the muscles and ligaments on the back of the neck and shoulders.
